Mrs. Marion "Other Mama" Lamb Mathews, age 88, of the New Town Community of Rutherford County, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Mrs. Mathews was born in Nashville, Tennessee and was a daughter of the late Thomas Marion and Mattie Martin Lamb. She was a lifelong member of Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Mathews was a homemaker and owner and operator of the former New Town Grocery in the New Town Community of Rutherford County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clay Mathews, who died in 1994 and by a sister, Bessie Louise Lamb.
Mrs. Mathews is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Melvin Hatcher; grandchildren, Cheryl (Terry) Douglas, Donna Burnett; great-grandchildren, Christy Douglas, Ashley and Michael Burnett, all of the New Town Community; sister, Mary Maella Jones, TX; brother, Bobby Martin Lamb, Murfreesboro, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Guin and Thelma Shockey officiating. Burial will follow in King Cemetery in the Rover Community of Bedford County.
Family will serve as active pallbearers. Ladies and Gentlemen of Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
