This year our bee population has exploded; we went from 20 to 70 hives in a matter of months. There is a lot to take care of but I really enjoy it.
Bees are some of the most interesting creatures. They are very smart, they have a GPS system that relies mostly on the sun. The bees know when their hive has been moved and when they leave they will go back to the place where the hive was set before, unless you move them five or more miles away.
As you can see from this article bees are very smart and interesting, so that is why I chose them for my 4-H project. 4-H is actually what originally sparked me to start in bees, along with the help of fellow beekeeper, Charles Murphree.
He invited me over to his house to help him work his bees. Then a few weeks later, he helped me get my first hive set up and install the bees and queen. They quickly multiplied and produced a healthy strong hive. Once the population grew massive, I started splitting the hives. With the extra hives comes sweet honey.
