WARTRACE -- Save a scare late in the first half, the Cascade Middle Champions (8-0) completely dominated yet another conference opponent, posting a 68-31 win over the Forrest Middle Rockets on Thursday night.

Keeping with their usual trend, the Champs burst out of the gates and took an early command of the game with a 22-point first quarter.

But the 22-9 lead over the visiting Rockets soon disappeared.

Early scare

Cascade was struck with nearly a three-minute scoring drought to begin the second quarter. Seizing the opportunity, the Rockets struck and scored seven unanswered points to close in on the lead and at one point, held a slim, 24-23 advantage.

As time neared expiration, Terrance Swan recaptured the lead for the Champs when he drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key.

The Champs got one more bucket just before the end of the half when Will Carter came up with a huge steal and hit Lane Stacy on an outlet pass for the easy layup before time expired.

Recharged

Despite only coming up with six second quarter points, the Champs came out guns blazing in the second half and put the game out of reach with 24 more points.

The Champs got six points from Swan, Hayden Edmondson, and Hunter Calvert to boost the score.

While Calvert and Edmondson provided an inside attack, Swan banked a pair of treys to lead the perimeter assault.

With a strong third quarter, Cascade played add on in the fourth, outscoring the visitors 11-3 to cruise to the win.

Physical game

Despite a huge disparity on the scoreboard, the game was a tough, knockdown drag out brawl from start to finish.

With that physical play came plenty of free throw attempts by both squads. Cascade made good on 14-of-24 tries while the Rockets could only connect on 9-of-21 shots.

The Champs hit the road and will travel to Murfreesboro on Monday to take on the MTCS Cougars, with the opening tipoff set to follow the Lady Champs game at 6 p.m.
