UNIONVILLE -- Save a stagnant third quarter, the Community Middle offense flourished against the Westwood Middle Rockets on Monday night.

After posting only five points in the third, the Vikes rallied for a 13-point fourth quarter to pull away late for the 40-35 win over the visitors.

Westwood saw the majority of its points from Carlos Medina, who scored a team-high 19 points for the Rockets.

Big differences

But Community was able to counteract the Rocket sharpshooter with Jackson Wisener's 19 points.

The difference in the game, however, came from Tatan Cagle and Tanner McClure's combined 16 points.

The Vikings took a commanding 22-13 lead in the first half, but saw the lead evaporate in the third quarter with Westwood outscoring the Vikes 8-5. The Rockets added 14 more in the fourth, but Community was able to post 13, including a 7-0 run to close the game to secure the win.

The Vikings hit the road on Friday as they travel to Chapel Hill to take on Forrest Middle, following the girls' game at 6 p.m.
