A local Boy Scout leader and Liberty School teacher has been charged with inappropriately touching a teenage boy.
Travis Scott Spivey, 43, of Dow Drive was charged Tuesday with sexual battery by an authority figure, Detective Sgt. Brian Crews of the Shelbyville Police Department said Thursday.
The victim is not one of Spivey's students or involved in current Boy Scout activity, Crews said.
Spivey has been placed on administrative leave without pay from his teaching position, interim school superintendent Mike Bone said Wednesday.
"(Spivey) assured me there were no other victims," Crews said. "He confessed to what he had done and showed significant signs of remorse and regret."
The victim and Spivey have been acquainted for several years, Crews said.
"He knew him through Boy Scouts but (the victim) has not been involved for a number of years," Crews said.
The victim spent Monday night at Spivey's home. He told Crews and Detective Carol Jean he was awakened by "inappropriate" actions by Spivey.
Spivey posted $25,000 bond, according to Bedford County Jail records.
