UNIONVILLE -- Cascade foul trouble and a strong third quarter just wasn't enough for the Community Middle Vikings to overcome the dynamic Cascade Middle offense on Monday night as the Champs rolled to a 56-27 win over their cross-county rivals.

Cascade was struck with several early fouls, which forced starter Hayden Edmondson to sit on the bench for the remainder of the quarter.

With Edmondson out, the Champs struggled to unleash their offense, but still managed to post nine points on the board.

While Cascade's offense was slow to get rolling, Community struggled to find its rhythm as well.

Knowing the threat Edmondson could bring, the Vikings were able to work their offense around him early.

Gardner steps in

That's when Seth Gardner took over.

He scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the first half alone, six of which came from 3-point range.

Community rallied for 14 points in the third quarter, with four points coming from inside threat Michael McClain.

McClain led the Vikings attack from inside the paint in the second half, while teammate Tanner McClure led the offense with an outside shot that banked seven points.

Shots fall

Still, the Champs were able to respond with 20 more in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

In addition to Gardner's 24 points, Edmondson knocked down an additional 13 points, despite his limited time on the floor.

Cascade didn't spend much time at the free throw line, but made their attempts count going 2-for-3.

The Vikings on the other hand made 5-of-12 tries from the charity stripe.

Both squads return to the hardwood on Thursday with the Vikings hosting MTCS for homecoming and the Champs headed Rutherford Co. to face Eagleville.
