Dan Buckner, Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Medical Center, has announced his resignation and semi-retirement.
"It has been my great honor to have worked for this hospital for the last five years," said Buckner. "I have enjoyed getting to know the Shelbyville community and the great employees and members of the medical staff who provide quality care each day."
Buckner joined Heritage in 2007, when it was still known as Bedford County Medical Center. During his tenure, he supervised the construction of a new hospital and the move into it in summer 2008.
The hospital subsequently added services including sleep lab, pulmonary rehabilitation, and wound care, and recruiting more than thirty new physicians to the medical staff.
For the past two years, the hospital has earned "top performer" recognition from The Joint Commission for quality care.
Planning for the leadership transition is underway.
