The Liberty Lady Patriots did everything needed to secure a win on Thursday night. They had a balanced offense that spread out the attack, they had an early advantage, all things needed to ensure a victory.
The x-factor in the game, however, was Westwood's Kursten Hawkins who netted a game-high 28 points, powering the visitors past Liberty, 43-42.
The contest was back and forth throughout all four quarters.
Liberty trailed Westwood 11-8 after one quarter, but found itself up 20-18 after the first half. Westwood played catch up with 15 more points in the third, but it was Liberty's 14 points in the fourth that nearly landed the Lady Patriots a victory.
Despite the late rally, Westwood added 10 more to escape with the 1-point victory.
Kyleigh Hardy led the Lady Pats with 18 points, with teammate Kendall Durard tacking on 10 more. Sydney Ely also contributed nine more points for the home team.
Liberty returns to action on Monday when the Lady Pats head to Unionville to face the Viqueens at 6 p.m.
