The Eaglettes battled all night and had a chance to tie the game at the end with a 3-pointer before making a costly turnover.
"There's no doubt we're getting better. It's just the little things throughout the game that are hurting us right now," Central coach Kevin Thomas said. "We're going to continue to work hard and get better and better."
Cannon County led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter, held a 18-16 advantage at halftime and took a 30-24 lead into the fourth period.
Shelbyville senior Bree Horner pitched in a game-high 17 points while Jameka Braden added 13.
Abbey Sissom netted 13 with Abby Jakes and Arianna Walkup each contributing nine point apiece for the winners.
The Eaglettes struggled at the charity stripe, only connecting on 7-of-14.
"We left a lot of points on the floor with missed layup and free throws and that really hurts in a close game," Thomas said.
