Eagles win close in tourney

Shelbyville Central's Golden Eagles led throughout the first half, saw that led disappear in the third quarter but found a way to battle back in the fourth to claim a 43-42 win over Upperman in the Cannon County Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday.

The Eagles (1-3) trailed 14-12 at the close of the first quarter but rallied to outscore their opponent 14-8 in the second frame to hold a 26-22 advantage at intermission.

Upperman dominated the third period and led by as much as nine points, outscoring Shelbyville 11-2 to take a 33-28 lead after three periods.

Kendall Ray nailed a huge 3-pointer, then cashed in on a pair of big free throws in the fourth stanza to help secure the win.

Tavist Allison led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points with Brayden Ward collecting 11.

Jared Case led Upperman with 13 points followed by Tyler McWilliams with 10.

The Eagles travel to Coffee County for a non district matchup tonight at 8.
