WARTRACE -- If it hadn't been for an uncharacteristically slow first quarter, the Cascade Middle Lady Champions could have been in position late in Monday's game against Westwood to escape with a victory.

That scenario didn't quite pan out as the Lady Rockets were able to stave off a second half rally by the Lady Champs to pull off the 46-41 win.

Cascade fell into a hole in the first quarter and had to play catch up throughout the remainder of the game. Westwood held an 11-3 lead, and extended it to 26-15 at the half.

Despite only coming up with three first quarter points, Cascade managed to post double digit figures in the remaining three quarters.

Led by Kristen Heath and Bailey Sudduth, the Lady Champs forced turnovers and nabbed several points in transition to bring it within four points with just under a minute to go.

Even though Cascade was able to close the score gap, the Lady Rockets were able to hit clutch free throws in the waning seconds of the game to secure the win.

Outside of Westwood's Kursten Hawkins, who led all scorers with 32 points, Westwood did't get a lot of offensive help.

Balanced scoring

Cascade, on the other hand, balanced the attack with Heath's 18 leading the way.

In addition to Heath, five other Lady Champions were able to bank valuable points to keep Cascade in contention until the final buzzer.

Cascade will look to regroup from the loss on Thursday in Chapel Hill where the Lady Champs will take on the Forrest Lady Rockets.
