Comm. Middle girls drop finale

Friday, November 30, 2012

LYNCHBURG -- It wasn't the way the Community Middle Viqueens wanted to close the regular season. On Thursday night, the Moore County Middle Raiderettes defeated the Community Viqueens in the regular season finale, 45-35.

Minus the first quarter, the teams played near mirror images of themselves throughout the game.

The Raiderettes pulled ahead after six minutes of play, with those first minutes of the game ultimately proved to be the difference in the final score.

Point for point

While down seven after the first, the Viqueens nearly matched the Raiderettes point for point in the remaining three quarters.

Despite the strong effort, Moore County still held on for the 10-point victory.

Led by Karla Pena's team-high eight points, Community brought the heat with the attack in the paint. Alyssa Freeman also added key points for the Viqueens.

At the line, the Viqueens were fairly efficient, cashing in on 7-of-11 attempts.

Lots of scorers

While Pena and Freeman led the Community offense, the Raiderettes got a load of help from spreading out the attack. Sloan Mann led all scorers with 10 points, while Grace Cauble added nine. Katie Thomas and Kinsley Logan chimed in with eight and seven, respectively.

Both the Raiderettes and the Viqueens will head to Chapel Hill next week to take part in the world tournament, held at Forrest Middle.

Tip off times will be announced early next week.
