LYNCHBURG -- Community Middle's one-two knockout punch of Austin Bonner and Tatan Cagle was simply too much for the Moore County Raiders in Thursday's regular season finale.
The pair combined for 25 points and led the Purple and Gold to an impressive 43-24 road victory.
The Vikings seized control after one quarter of play and held a 13-6 lead going into the second. They extended their lead to 23-11 at the half. While Bonner and Cagle provided the attack for the Vikings, Moore County answered with Austin Holdmeyer, who matched Bonner's game-high 13 points.
But outside of Holdmeyer, the Raiders didn't get much help at all from the supporting cast, whereas Community added five more players into the scoring column.
The biggest quarter, however, cam in the third when the Vikes outscored the Raiders 14-7 to break any sort of momentum mustered by the home team. Both teams added six in the fourth, which landed the Purple and Gold the win.
One area that could have proved costly for the Vikings was their efforts at the free throw line, as they weren't able to connect on any shots. While the team as a whole only went 0-for-3, it could be an area of concern in next week's world tournament.
The Vikings have a little bit of time to hammer out the kinks and improve upon some of the things needed to find success in the tourney next week.
Tip off times and opponents will be announced early next week.
