CHAPEL HILL -- Chalk up another dominating effort by the Cascade Middle Champion as they handed the Forrest Rockets a whopping 61-35 defeat on Thursday night.
Cascade controlled nearly every facet of the game, and a large part of that dominating effort came from a solid first quarter of play.
Following the initial six minutes, the Champs led the home team 24-5. After one half of play, Cascade held a 39-17 advantage. The Champs hit cruise control in the second half, but still managed another 22 points to close the deal.
Cascade got a huge boost from Seth Gardner, who banked a game-high 29 points. He also led the Champion perimeter attack, knocking down five treys. Hayden Edmondson also gave the Champs valuable minutes and added 16 points.
When added to Gardner's efforts from range, the pair scored a total of 24 points from the 3-point line. In all, the Champs scored 10 from beyond the arc.
Cascade's supporting cast of Logan Thomas, Terrance Swan, Will Carter, Lane Stacey and Hunter Calvert all came in the game and added points to the Champs' winning efforts as well.
Forrest did place a pair of players in double digits, with Marshall McKee leading the Rockets with 11 and Jacob Jones adding 10.
The Rockets will host the world tournament next week, with the starting game times and opponents being announced at the first of the week.
