SHELBYVILLE -- After falling behind in the first half, Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes rallied to even the score but failed to close the deal in a 44-34 loss to visiting Siegel on Thursday night.

The Eaglettes (1-5) trailed 12-6 at the close of the first quarter and 25-17 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Stars 10-3 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 28-27.

Eaglette junior Sara Beth Martin scored at the 4:46 mark of the fourth quarter to even the score at 31-all, but Siegal closed out the game with a 13-3 run.

Still learning

"I'm pleased how we battled back to tie the game but we've got to learn how to win," Central coach Kevin Thomas said.

"That's something that's not going to happen overnight. It's going to take some time but I know we will get there."

Three-point goals played a huge role as Siegel connected on 7-of-20 while the Eaglettes only made 1-of-9.

"We knew coming in that they liked to shoot a lot of 3-pointers and I though we did a pretty good job of defending it. They only had one player hit more than one and a couple that usually don't shoot many," Thomas said. "We've just got to get better on offense."

Scoring

Paris Lawson led the winners with 11 points while Amber Daniels added 10, including a pair of treys.

Sophomore To'Nesha Allison pitched in a game-high 14 points for the Eaglettes with Jameka Braden adding seven.

"I'm pleased with the way To'Nesha played. She struggled a little on Tuesday night against Coffee County but she really bounced back played well tonight," Thomas said. "That's a good sign and that's what we've got to do. We're a young team and we've got to stay positive and get better as the season goes along."
