Smyrna post Ganda Ameri dominated inside the paint and scored a game-high 25 points.
"We just couldn't overcome their size. Their big man inside really hurt us and we had a hard time stopping him," Central coach Stan Eggleston said.
"We didn't play very well in the first quarter and when you are undersized, there's no margin for error and you almost have to play a perfect game."
The Eagles fell behind 20-11 at the close of the first quarter, trailed 32-21 at halftime and 50-35 after three periods.
"We played better in the second, third and fourth quarters but dug ourselves into a hole after the first quarter," Eggleston said.
"We fought back in the fourth quarter and got it down to six points but just couldn't finish it out. A couple of turnovers and missed shots late in the game didn't help."
Richard Mulligan scored 14 points while Taylor Vanderbilt added a dozen for the winners.
Holt Parsons led Shelbyville with 10 points with Detrell Carpenter and Brayden Ward each contributing nine points apiece.
'We're continuing to improve each game and that's what I'm looking for right now," Eggleston said."If we continue to do that the wins will come."
