It's been a tough stretch of games for the Community Vikings. Since the Thanksgiving break, the Vikings have been on a skid, dropping their seventh straight game on Friday night to the Eagleville Eagles.

Community (3-8, 0-5 9-A) suffered another slow start to the game, which led to the eventual 66-57 defeat.

The visiting Eagles (5-6, 1-2 9-A) wasted little time utilizing their fast-paced, high octane offense. At one point in the first, Eagleville held a 14-2 lead with just under three minutes to go in the opening frame.

Community rebounded a bit and closed the quarter on a 5-3 run, down just 10 points heading to the second.

But as sluggish as things were in the first, the Vikings began to find their traction in the second.

As a team, the Vikes piled up 19 points and outscored the visitors by three to head to the half down by 12.

In the third, the Vikings turned to Tanner Simmons' inside attack to lead the way, and found some early successes with his attacking the paint.

But a pair of back-to-back 3's created some space on the scoreboard for the Eagles.

Community continued to pound the lane with buckets by Simmons, Blake Fanning, and Logan Pierce, but it was almost as if for every layup the Vikings could muster, the Eagles were able to connect on a trey.

In all, the Eagles hit seven, third quarter 3-pointers, three of which came from Chris Hale.

Even with the ranged attack by the Eagles in the third, the Vikings continued to chip into the lead.

Late in the fourth quarter, Community went on an 11-2 run with around one minute left to play.

Fueled by a couple of big 3's by Luke Primm, the Vikings were right back in the fight.

But as with most of the game, when the Eagles needed him most, John Posada hit a big shot to secure the win with less than 20 seconds left.

Save the sluggish first, the Vikings outscored the Eagles in two quarters and at times dominated the lane. Community also helped fuel the late-game run by crashing the boards and getting big rebounds from Simmons, Primm, and Fanning.

Simmons paced the Vikings with 18 points with teammates Logan Pierce and Luke Primm chipping in with 11 and 10, respectively.

For the Eagles, Posada showed the hot hand through all four quarters. He hit a game-high 23 points and drilled four from range. Chris Hale and Bo Tollett also had big nights for the Eagles.

Hale knocked down 15, but Tollett hit all 12 of his from beyond the perimeter.

With a pair of non-district showdowns next week against Cornersville and Webb in the Community Christmas Classic, the Vikings get to step outside of district play until after the Christmas break when the Vikings will host the Huntland Hornets on Jan. 4.
