No signs of missing man

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

A widespread search took place over the weekend for a man who has been missing from his home south of Shelbyville near Duck River since Friday.

Matthew Tibbs was last seen at his Tollgate Road residence at approximately 1:36 a.m. Friday, the Bedford County Sheriff's Department said.

"We're going to begin dragging the river in the next couple of days," Sheriff Randall Boyce said today.

Coffee County rescuers will be brought in to help, the sheriff said.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. his family discovered the back door was open and he was gone, BCSD Detective Chad Webster said.

Tibbs' truck, keys, phone, glasses and wallet were left behind, the BCSD said.

Investigators did not observe forced entry to the residence and do not suspect foul play, Webster said.

Tibbs was last seen wearing a red, long-sleeved shirt, blue undershirt and blue jeans and is thought to have not been wearing socks or shoes.

Searches near his home and the river were conducted from Friday through Sunday by the BCSD.
