James Donald 'Don' Smith

There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of James Donald "Don" Smith, age 78, of Shelbyville. The gathering will take place Thursday evening, Dec. 27, 2012 from 4 until 6:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 6:00 in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Bierovic officiating. Mr. Smith passed on late Sunday night, Dec. 23, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

Born August 2, 1934 in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Alonzo Smith and Mary Etta Ball Smith and was preceded in death by his brother Robert "Bobby" Smith. Mr. Smith served his country in the U.S. Navy. He graduated in the Shelbyville Central High School class of 1955. Starting in 1979 until 1999 he was the Personnel Manager for Tyson Foods.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirley Rasmussen Smith; daughters, Shelley (Howard) Pinkston and Keri Smith, all of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Christopher (Lacey) Pinkston, Kristin (Brian) McBay all of Shelbyville, Eric (Zary) McCullough of Murfreesboro, Caroline McCullough of Shelbyville; and great grandchildren, Tyler, Cameron, Allyssa, Logan and Adalie; Sibilings, Norene Adcock, Thomas Smith, Joe Smith and Sue Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
