COLUMBIA -- For the second game in a row, the Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes took a commanding lead into the fourth quarter only to see it slip away.

But after blowing the lead in Friday's loss, Shelbyville Central found a way to hang on Saturday in a 45-43 win over Siegel in the Columbia Christmas Classic.

Leading 34-21 after three periods, the Eaglettes fell apart in the final eight minutes but junior Jameka Braden hustled across the lane and grabbed a rebound off a missed free throw and scored at the buzzer for the win.

"We played extremely well the first three quarters in the past two game and I thought we dominated both teams going into the fourth quarter in both game," Central coach Kevin Thomas said.

"We just didn't respond very well in the fourth quarter in both games and we've just got to continue to get better handling the ball. With that said, Jameka came up with a big rebound and put back to win this game."

The Eaglettes (5-7) took control early, posting leads of 14-7 at the close of the first quarter before taking an 18-9 advantage at the break.

"We really played well in the first half and did a great job on defense holding them to only nine points in the first half," Thomas said.

Shelbyville continued to dominate in the third stanza, outscoring its opponent 16-12 in the third quarter.

Turnovers and mental mistakes proved costly as the Eaglettes were outscored 22-11 in the fourth quarter before squeaking out the win in the closing seconds.

To'Nesha Allison pitched in 13 points, Braden netted 11 while Sara Beth Martin added nine for Shelbyville.

Paris Lawson's 19 points led all scorers while Amber Daniels added 14 for the Lady Stars.

Siegel (11-3) had claimed a double-digit win over the Eaglettes earlier in the season.

Shelbyville faces South Greene in the Landair Ladies' Classic in Greeneville on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CST.
