GREENEVILLE -- The fourth quarter blues continue for the Golden Eaglettes.

After holding a 31-30 advantage after three periods, Shelbyville Central was outscored 19-12 in the final stanza in a 49-43 loss to South Greene in the opening round of the Landair Ladies Classic.

In the past three games, Shelbyville's opponents have doubled the Eaglettes total points in the fourth quarter by a score of 62-31.

"We're just struggling late in the game right now. We've been ahead going into the fourth quarter the last three game and lost two of the and the one game we won, we hit a shot at the buzzer for the win," Central coach Kevin Thomas said. "Teams are putting a lot of pressure on us late in the game, trying to get back into the game, and we're just not doing a very good job of handling the ball."

The Eaglettes (5-8) turned the ball over 19 times and only shot 32 percent from the field in the second half against the Lady Rebels in this game.

South Green had a balanced scoring attack, placing four players in double digits.

Javan Wilhoit, Maelyn Cutshaw and Peyton Williams each scored 12 points for the Lady Rebels, while Cheyenne Upton followed with 11 tallies.

To'Nesha led Shelbyville with a dozen points with Bree Horner and Jameka Braden each contributing 10 apiece.

South Green led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter with the Eaglettes posting a 23-20 advantage at halftime.

The winner's cashed in on 18-of-26 attempts at the foul line, including 8-of-14 in the fourth period, compared to Shelbyville's 5-of 6.

"There's not a quick fix for our struggles late in the game. We've just got to continue to work hard and with experience, I think there will be a lot of improvement as the season goes along," Thomas said.

The Eaglettes faced Cocke County this morning in tournament action.
