Thursday, December 27, 2012

A Shelbyville man was charged with DUI after his vehicle struck a utility pole on Horse Mountain Road in Shelbyville and overturned late Friday afternoon.

Daniel Brown told police he had consumed seven or eight margaritas at a Shelbyville restaurant and was driving to a friend's home. A 12-pack of beer was found in the the car, police said.

Brown lost control of his car on a curve, hit the pole, overcorrected and ran into a ditch, officer Chris Vest's report said.

He was treated for minor injuries at Heritage Medical Center, according to police.

The road was closed for several hours as Shelbyville Power personnel restored electricity.

Home entered

Two men entered a Tanner Circle home and left with over $2,000 worth of electronics Friday night while the owner was in the back yard with friends.

The intruders took two flat-panel televisions, an xBox and SLR camera with lens as the resident called 911.

Police were unable to reach the home before the thieves left in a black Ford Mustang.

Child finds gun

A Glock 23 handgun was discovered by a child in a wooded area behind a Collier Avenue home Saturday.

The complainant said his son was playing and cutting small trees from his bike path when he found the gun under a tree.

The boy's father said he removed the gun's magazine and was unable to rack the slide back due to its weathered condition.

A serial number check by police showed the gun was not stolen.

Vehicle burglary

A 2006 Shelbyville Central High class ring and vehicle registration papers were stolen from the glove box of a car at a Midland Road residence Friday.
