Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's community-based fund-raising effort. A variety of events are held year-round by various Relay teams, leading up to the Relay For Life event itself, which will be held May 31-June 1, 2013, at Bedford County Agriculture and Education Center.

ACS uses funds for research, advocacy and for patient services such as the Hope Lodge, which allows out-of-town cancer patients and their families to stay overnight while undergoing cancer treatments. One of the many Hope Lodge facilities is located in Nashville. From Bedford County, 24 patients spent a total of 534 nights at Hope Lodge this year. Other patient services include assisting with transportation to and from cancer treatments; "Reach to Recovery," a support and encouragement program for breast cancer patients and survivors; and "Look Good... Feel Better," a program to help advise patients on cosmetics and appearance during cancer treatments as a way of boosting their mood and self-image.
