It wasn't the prettiest or a very impressive win but it was a District 8-AAA win nonetheless.

Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes found a way to claim a 41-36 victory over visiting Tullahoma on Tuesday.

Offensive points were hard to come by in the first half as the teams scored a combined 25 points in the first half with the Eaglettes holding an 8-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 13-12 advantage at halftime.

"Our kids played hard, fought hard the entire game, but for some reason we just couldn't make shots inside the paint, especially in the first half," Central coach Kevin Thomas said.

"With the way this district is, and district win, especially at home is big."

Both teams warmed up a little after halftime with Shelbyville up 26- 23 going into the fourth quarter, where they outscored the Lady Wildcats 15-13.

"We left a lot of points on the floor with missed layups and free throws, but we really battled on the boards and showed a lot of toughness," Thomas said.

"This game was close throughout and being able to win a close game like this make help us down the road."

Shelbyville only shot 30.6 percent from the field while Tullahoma was 40.6 percent.

The Eaglettes weren't much better at the free throw line, only connecting on 8-of 19.

Jameka Braden paced the winners with a dozen points while To'Nesha Allison added eight.

Erin Layne led the Lady Wildcats with 11 tallies.

Shelbyville held a 20-16 advantage in rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass.

"We really battled on the boards and that's always a good sign as well," Thomas said.

The Eaglettes (8-9, 2-1 8-AAA) host district foe Lawrence County on Friday night at 6.
