Profits from the rally were combined with other club funds to buy gift certificates for food through Shelbyville's Piggly Wiggly grocery. Fifty-dollar certificates were presented to families as a follow-up to holiday gift-giving. Alcohol and tobacco are not included in the purchase list.
The certificates cannot be converted to cash, but every penny credited via certificate is good for food and household supplies. Each year the goal to help families in this way is raised higher for the Liberty Lions Club and the group has achieved success with projects like the Poker Rally, the annual Horse Show and other activities for the community at large. Thanks to dozens of local sponsors who donated money to Liberty Lions projects in 2012. In 2012 and for several years before, the group has been able to maintain this holiday program, as well as make regular contributions through the White Cane program, purchase glasses for youngsters who are screened yearly at Liberty School, and help people who need assistance with vision and hearing issues.
