Webb Middle boys beat SAS

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Sam Smith hoisted SAS on his back and literally carried the visitors to a win over the Webb Middle Feet on Wednesday night. He scored a game-high 19 points and powered SAS to the 41-32 win over the Feet.

"Smith just dominated us in the paint all night. He did a good job winning 50-50 balls and converting around the basket. We had our chances to cut the lead down in the fourth, but we had key turnovers that we could not recover from," said Webb coach James Garcia.

Smith scored nine of his game-high 19 in the first quarter alone. Webb battled back, though, and knotted the game in the second half by controlling the boards and limiting SAS' success in the post.

Early in the third, Webb had battled back and taken a 13-11 lead to begin the frame. SAS responded with a 10-0 run, six of which came from Smith. Webb cut the lead down to seven points with four minutes to play, but couldn't trim the deficit any more as SAS held on for the win.

"We have a conference game tomorrow, so hopefully we can show improvement from the line and our decision making in transition," Garcia said.

Webb will play at Currey Ingram this afternoon.
