The Second Annual Middle Tennessee Gospel Music Festival will be held March 8-9 at Calsonic Arena on the Celebration grounds. The event, featuring southern, bluegrass, contemporary and traditional gospel styles, is held during the second weekend of March each year.
The festival begins at 7 p.m. Friday and continues on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. Gates will open one hour before the show each day.
This year's line-up features 14 groups, with 11 returning from last year.
Returning are Ernie Dawson and Heirline, The Freemans, Vocal Union, Crystal River, Three Bridges, The Beelers, The Cavaliers Quartet, CrossPoint String Band, Work in Progress and By Faith. Newcomers include The Riders, Locust Ridge, Nathan and Tonya Horton and Brandon Scott Smith.
"I felt led by the Lord to reach out to the youth in our community and specifically invited Brandon Scott Smith for people who enjoy a more contemporary Christian style of music," said Gary Barton, festival organizer. "He and his band are scheduled to perform at 5:15 p.m., March 9. You can hear a sample of his music on his website at http://www.brandonscottsmith.net ."
Tickets are $10, all of which (along with love offerings to be taken during the event) are divided among 13 of the 14 participating groups. One group has declined compensation. Other costs for the festival are borne by Rutledge Falls Baptist Church from Tullahoma, which sponsors the event.
None of the participating groups is charged its customary honorarium fees.
