Shelbyville chooses new planning director

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Shelbyville has picked its new planning and community development director.

Amanda A. Rhinehart, who has already been working with the city's planning commission as director of local planning for the South Central Tennessee Development District (SCTDD), accepted the job offer.

'Solid' applicants

City manager Jay Johnson explained that six people were initially interviewed for the job in December, followed by three secondary talks with applicants, who he termed as "excellent, solid."

Rhinehart is expected to start work in late February or early March.

"We're really excited that she will be joining our staff," Johnson said.

Work history

Rhinehart has been serving as a contract planner for SCTDD, working not only for Shelbyville and the county, but also for Bell Buckle, Maury County, Centerville, Decherd, Lawrenceburg, Linden, Mount Pleasant and Spring Hill.

She served in a similar capacity for the state's department of economic and community development, serving in an advisory capacity form many of the same communities.

Rhinehart also worked for the city of Colton, Ga. from 2006 until 2009, serving as an administrative analyst, public works project manager, assistant to the city manager and a senior project manager.
