FAYETTEVILLE -- After falling behind early, Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes bounced back to take a commanding lead, then held on down the stretch to claim a 41-40 victory over host Lincoln County in a huge District 8-AAA matchup on Friday night.

The Lady Falcons took control early, scoring six unanswered points to start the game but the Eaglettes were able to cut the lead to 10-8 by the end of the quarter.

Olivia Calvert's 3-pointer early in the second quarter gave Shelbyville its first lead of the game.

Calvert connected on four treys in the first half as the Eaglettes posted a 26-23 hafltime advantage.

The Eaglettes continued to roll in the third quarter and went up 32-23 at the 4:53 mark of the third quarter on the way to a 34-28 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Lincoln County fought back in the final eight minutes and regained the lead when Courtney Storey sank a pair of free throws for a 40-39 lead.

Jameka Braden's basket off an assist from Calvert with 1:31 left to play proved to be the difference and the game-winning basket.

"We got a little shaky with the ball late in the game and made some unforced turnovers in a close game, but we found a way to get a big district win on the road," Central coach Kevin Thomas said.

"I thought we played tremendous defense the whole night and to hold Lincoln County to 40 points in this gym is a testament to defense we played."

Braden and Calvert each scored 14 points for the Eaglettes while Storey and Morgan Higgans netted 14 points apiece for the Lady Falcons.

"They played some 2-3 (zone defense) in the first half but we shot the ball pretty well and Olivia Calvert's four 3-pointers really kept us in the game in the first half," Thomas said. "We were fighting some sickness in this game and couldn't play some girls as much as we would have liked but this was a great team win for us."

The Eaglettes travel to Oakland on Tuesday night for a non-district match-up at 6.
