Shelbyville firefighters were relieved to hear the cry, "Nobody's inside," while fighting a blaze that consumed a Midland Road home early Saturday.

The home of Abad Petatan was totally engulfed shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday when firefighters arrived.

A neighbor called 911 reporting they heard a loud "bang" and saw fire moments later.

A van parked behind the house is believed to have ignited with flames quickly spreading to the house, according to the Shelbyville Fire Department. The reason for the van's catching fire was undetermined.

Arriving firefighters saw vehicles in front of the home and feared the worst. Eventually a man who knows the occupants arrived and told investigators they were not present.
