A 35-year-old man couldn't control his alleged obsession with a 14-year-old runaway girl, investigators say -- and he was arrested Sunday night as a result.
Billy Melton of Jack Pickle Road thought the girl was waiting for him in Wheel, but he was met by Bedford County Sheriff's Department investigators -- including a male deputy who had been portraying the victim in cell phone messages.
Melton is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.
He helped the girl run away from home, but she returned late last week, Deputy Cam Farrell said in his report.
Texts from Melton to the girl continued, and her father took her cell phone to the sheriff's department, according to Ferrell.
Melton continued texting, saying he wanted to be with her and sending explicit photographs, Farrell said.
Farrell had taken over by that point and was responding to Melton.
Melton allegedly asked to meet for sex in Wheel. Ferrell and other deputies set up a meeting, and Melton was arrested at approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
