A Florida horse show sponsored by the Celebration has been cancelled for this year, but organizers are hoping for the event to continue in 2014.
The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration (TWHNC) announced that the 2013 Gulf Coast Charity Celebration, traditionally held in Panama City Beach, Fla., will not take place this year.
According to a statement from Celebration CEO Mike Inman, the organization was "unable to achieve the correct balance of cost, participation, and sponsorship to make the show profitable in 2012."
"The Celebration has proven it will do everything it can to help horse shows in the industry to survive but at some point we have to protect the bottom line of The Celebration and unfortunately that motive necessitated the move to cancel the 2013 Gulf Coast Charity Celebration," Inman said in a statement posted on the TWHNC website.
The three day show had been scheduled for April 25-27, and has been a staple on the Walking Horse show calendar since 1999.
Although the event has been cancelled in 2013, "both the TWHNC and Gulf Coast Charity are looking at ways to continue the show in 2014," the statement read.
The void in the show calendar has not yet been filled, and the Celebration said they are "looking at all options to move forward in 2014 with a show in Panama City Beach."
