Central students compete in technical event

Fatima Juarez and Taryn Hicks were first place winners in structural engineering. Their structure held a load of 163 pounds, compared with second place winners coming in at only 90 pounds.

Students from Technology Engineering Education classes at Shelbyville Central High School's Career Technical Education department recently attended regional Technology Students Association (TSA) competitive events at Middle Tennessee State University. Six students competed with other students from high schools in the Middle Tennessee area.

Instructor Steve Petty teaches units in power and energy, engineering design, construction technology and aerospace technology. TSA activities give students a chance to showcase, by way of practical application, the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom.
