Trailing 37-29 going into the fourth quarter, the Eagles (5-15, 1-6 8-AAA) outscored the Lions 25-14 in the final eight minutes to secure the win.
With the game knotted at 49-all, junior guard Sterling Smith scored what proved to be the game-winning shots when he canned four straight free throws in the final 37 seconds.
"Our guys kept working hard throughout the game. They stayed together, and give or take a couple of bad decisions, we played well in the fourth quarter and found a way to win," Shelbyville coach Stan Eggleston said. "Hopefully the guys will build off this win."
After swapping baskets in the first quarter, the Eagles held a 15-11 advantage at the end of the opening stanza.
Columbia outscored Shelbyville 11-4 in the second quarter to go up 22-19 at the intermission.
The Lions extended the lead in the third quarter despite Eagle sophomore Tavist Allison scoring eight points inside the paint in the third to keep Shelbyville in the game.
"Tavist is just getting better everyday. He a strong post and he did a great job of keeping us in the game when they made a run on us in the third quarter and all the other guys on the floor did a good job of getting him the basketball," Eggleston said.
It was a combination of scoring inside and outside with steady play on defense by the Eagles in their fourth quarter comeback.
"When we're playing well on offense we have the ability to score down low as well as kick it out and shoot the three and that's what we were able to do in the fourth quarter," Eggleston said.
Brayden Ward connected on a pair of 3-pointers and Smith added another while Allison added six more points down low in the fourth period.
Allison scored a game-high 19 points while Ward and Smith each netted a dozen tallies apiece.
Dre Hall and Brandon Levier each pitched in 10 points to lead the Lions.
