TULLAHOMA -- Shelbyville Central's offense showed up but the defense didn't in the Golden Eagles' 79-66 loss at District 8-AAA-leading Tullahoma on Friday night.

"We didn't come out with a lot of intensity on the defensive end," Central coach Stan Eggleston said.

"We did a good job of our set plays offensively and did a good job of scoring, but our lack of defense really became an issue for us by the end of the game."

It's been a challenging week for the Eagles as three players were suspended while junior guard Sterling Smith had surgery on his neck and is out for the remainder of the season.

All four were starters at some point during the season.

"It's been a tough week for our basketball team with losing Sterling for the season with his surgery and some guys breaking team rules but I'm proud of how the guys stayed focused and fought throughout the game," Eggleston said.

"We also had another player in Sam Sinclair have a surgery this week on his nose but he was able to play tonight."

The Wildcats dominated the first three quarters, posting a 20-9 lead at the end of the first period, 42-25 at the intermission and 65-38 going into the fourth stanza.

Shelbyville (5-16, 1-7 8-AAA) outscored Tullahoma 28-14 in the fourth with junior Kendall Ray leading the way by scoring 14 of his 28 points in the final eight minutes.

"We really did a good job of putting the ball in the basket in the fourth quarter," Eggleston said.

"I'm proud of the fight we showed and how we never quit."

The Eagles connected on 10 3-pointers in the game with Ray cashing in on six.

Marquel Hickerson pitched in a game-high 37 points while Tyler Fishback contributed a dozen.

Kendall Ray scored a career-high 28 points, including six 3-pointers for the Eagles.
