Harris boys bump Stewart's Creek, keep season alive

Harris Middle School's Golden Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim a 59-38 win over visiting Stewart's Creek in opening round action of the TMSAA Area/Sectional on Monday night.

The Eagles (13-5) advance to the next round in Clarksville on Wednesday at 6:45 against an opponent to be named.

After trailing 10-8 at the close of the first quarter the Eagles outscored Stewart's Creek 17-8 in the second stanza to go up 25-18 at halftime.

Harris posted a 38-30 advantage after three periods then closed out the game with a 21-8 run in the fourth quarter to claim the double-digit victory.

It was a balanced scoring effort for the winners with Michael Hayworth leading the way with a game-high 20 points, including 5-of-5 at the charity stripe.

Darius Young collected 13, Jamal Harden followed with a dozen and Camari Cannon pitched in 11, including 5-of-6 at the free throw line.

The Eagles connected on an impressive 11-of-12 shots at the foul line.

Devon Sims paced Stewart's Creek with 15 tallies.
