UNIONVILLE -- The Community Viqueens squared off in a non-district game against Lancaster Academy on Monday night, but it was three seniors that stole the show in front of a large home crowd.

The Lady Knights won a closely contested ball game by a score of 61-54, but the loss did little to dampen the crowds enthusiasm as they showered their appreciation on four year stars Katie Leverette, Kristin Ray and Hannah Busbee.

Community led most of the way in the first period before a Lady Knight comeback closed the quarter on a 12-11 advantage for the visitors.

The two teams took turns with the lead in the second frame, but Lancaster Academy maintained a 25-21 cushion despite a six point effort by Leverette.

The Viqueen press continued to pester the Lady Knight defenders and was successful in creating some easy scoring opportunities in transition but a sudden streak of cold shooting near the end of the period contributed to a 44-35 deficit to begin the fourth.

Freshman Sarah Pierce heated up for nine points in the final frame and Leverette netted six but the Purple and Gold was never able to cut the lead to less than six despite 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line.

KK Williams led all scorers with 20 for the visitors.

Leverette hit for 18 and Pierce joined her in double figures with 14 for the Viqueens.

Community connected on 13-of-18 attempts from the charity stripe.
