UNIONVILLE -- Scheduling bigger, stronger, faster opponents is a recipe for disaster in most cases.

But the Community Vikings took the opportunity to rest their starters, yet still managed to allow their seniors the marquee time they so well deserved in their last appearance in the Purple and Gold on their home court against Lancaster Academy on Monday night.

Zeke Grissom, Logan Pierce and JD Parker may have made their final home appearance, but their presence will be felt for many years among the Viking faithful, not only on the court, but off it as well.

"Those three young men have been the consummate student-athletes," Viking coach Robbie Davis said.

"Logan, JD and Zeke are more than just players. They are the leaders of this team on the court, but more importantly, they set the standard for our team in the academic arena as well.

"They will be missed when they are gone, but we aren't ready to say goodbye just yet. We still have a lot of basketball to play this season."

The game was a good old fashioned 84-47 blowout in favor of a very talented and vertically gifted Lancaster Academy, but the home crowd would readily testify that the three seniors are leaving as winners that no one-game outcome is going to change.

The Knights led 24-9, 56-22, 74-36 after three quarters and finished with three players in double figures to account for the final tally.

Eric Evans scored a game-high 18 for the visitors. Hayden McKee hit five 3-pointers to finish with 15 and Jacob Freeze contributed 14.

Freshman Darian Pride put up 14 points to lead the Vikings.
