Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Led by eighth-graders Sydney Ely and AJ Mitchell, the Liberty Lady Patriots were able to hold off a pesky MTCS Lady Cougar squad on Monday night for a 31-27 victory.

Mitchell and Hardy combined for 22 points to guide the Lady Pats to the victory.

Of Liberty's eight points in the first quarter, Mitchell knocked down a pair of buckets while teammate Kyleigh Hardy added three.

Ely came through for Liberty in the second quarter, highlighted by a 3-pointer, to help power another eight-point quarter.

Close game

Though Liberty got a couple big shots to fall, MTCS closed the gap and the two teams went to the locker room separated by one point.

But Liberty spread the attack in the third quarter and tacked on 12 more to charge ahead.

Even though Liberty held a 28-20 lead after three quarters, MTCS outscored Liberty 6-3, but couldn't finish the Rally, as Liberty was able to hold on for the win.

While Mitchell and Ely each knocked down 11 points, Kayla Taylor led all scorers for MTCS with 12 points.

The Lady Pats will host Forrest Middle this evening at 6 p.m.
