Ms. Esther Hazel Whitney, age 80, of Wartrace passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at her residence.

She was a native of Isabel, South Dakota and the daughter of the late Frederick Opp and Rozina Himmerick Opp. She was a retired cook for Headstart in Wartrace and a very active member of Tullahoma Church of God of Prophecy. She was the wife of Robert W. Whitney who preceded her in death in 2001.

She is survived by her children, Nyoka "Nicky" (Brian) Woods of Wartrace, Rick (Mary) Whitney of Wartrace, Terry (Sam) Davis of Shelbyville, Tabitha (Jim) Schmidt of Michigan and Tim (Roxanne) Whitney of Wartrace; five sisters, Martha Scholl of South Dakota, Elsie Myhre of Florida, Gladys Gay of Iowa, Alice Lutz of Idaho and Lorraine Griffis of Iowa; two brothers, Edward Opp of Minnesota and Herman Opp of South Dakota; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews; her caregiver and dear friend, Florine Carter Copeland of Wartrace; and a host of church family and friends.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Schroeder, Emma Stadel and Leona Nemrava, and two brothers, Alvin Opp and Albert "Curly" Opp.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Gowen-Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 10:00 am from the chapel of Gowen-Smith with Bro. William Pritchett and Bro. Jimmy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Whitney family cemetery in Wartrace.
