Graveside service for Mr. Bernice Alexander Gregory, Jr. age 88, of Southhaven, Miss., formerly of Shelbyville, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Willow Mount Cemetery with Brother Dewey Smith officiating. Mr. Gregory passed from this life March 19, 2014 at Trinity Mission in Byhalia, MS.
A native of Bedford County, he was the son of the late Bernice A. Gregory, Sr. and Leila Bell Gilliland and preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Sylene Edwards Gregory, brother Tommy "Red" Gregory and sister Bettie Gregory Carney.
Mr. Gregory, a public servant, was retired from the Memphis Army Depot, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WWll and the Korean War. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Collierville Christian Church where he served as an elder for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Helen Merritt Gregory, stepsons Bill Wortham and Randy Wortham, stepdaughter, Sandy Wortham Dawkins all of Memphis, TN, seven stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, nieces Debbie Crosslin, Cindy Lee, Brenda Gregory, Jenny Summers and nephew, Jim Carney.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
