Hix honored by astronomical society

Billy Hix of Shelbyville was honored with the Master Outreach Award from the American Astronomical League. The presentation took place during a March 21 meeting of the Von Braun Astronomical Society in Huntsville, Ala. To qualify for this award, Hix had to conduct at least 50 public outreach programs during the past year. Hix works to inspire a love for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education among youth. During the past year, Hix has worked with over 10,000 students in school systems across the Motlow State Community College service area. Hix is a professor of education at Motlow and a teacher liaison for the Colorado-based Space Foundation.
