Big Event Gas Give-Away is back
No matter what is under your tree Christmas morning, your chance to win a $500, $300 or $200 Shell gas card will arrive right after Christmas.
The Times-Gazette and Southern Energy / Serve & Go Markets will sponsor this year's post-Christmas "$1,000 Big Event Gas Give-Away" promotion, which starts with a special 32-page advertising supplement in the Sunday, Dec. 27 edition of the Times-Gazette.
As with past contests, the object will be for readers to count the number of "Big Event" logos on pages 2 through 31 of the section and include that number on the official entry form.
First, second and third place winners will be drawn randomly from among the correct entries. The first prize winner will receive a $500 Shell gas card, the second place winner a $300 Shell gas card and the third place winner a $200 Shell gas card.
The contest is fun for readers and also provides a great opportunity for advertisers, given how closely the special section will be examined by players looking for those logos.
Gayle Gragg won last year's post-Christmas Big Event.
"I was so excited when I got the call," Gragg said at the time. "I'm on the go all the time, and I love to travel."
The prize is given out by a random drawing, and last year, by sheer coincidence, Ruth Neese and her step-grandson Eddie Burris II won the second and third place prizes respectively.
"I told my mom we need to buy a Powerball ticket tonight," said Burris last winter. "The year's starting off good so far."
The contest will begin with that special section on Dec. 27. Players will be able to turn in their completed original entry forms at the Times-Gazette or at any of five different Southern Energy locations: Serve & Go at 801 Union St., 316 South Cannon Blvd., U.S. 231 North or 764 Madison St., or The Wedge at 401 Belmont Ave. No copies will be accepted. Entries may also be submitted by mail; instructions will be on the entry form.
Forms must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2015, and winners will be announced on Jan. 8.
Businesses interested in advertising in the Dec. 26 "Big Event" supplement can contact the Times-Gazette's display advertising department, 684-1200, for more information.
"All pages are sold out every year so get your business ad page reserved quickly," said T-G advertising manager Sissy Smith.
