Fun day set for special young people

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

The Leadership Bedford Youth Class is treating special youths to a day filled with fun festivities.

The free "Carnival For Care" will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shelbyville Central High School's football field. The event is designed to enable youths with special needs and their families to participate in fun activities. Everyone is welcome. There will be games, face painting, snow cones, music and more.

'Large hearts'

"The Leadership Bedford Youth Class determined that youths with special needs are often overlooked and cannot participate in fun events such as carnivals," said Andrea McCullough, an advisor for the leadership class. "The kids wanted to help that particular group. They're all juniors, and all have large hearts and care a lot."

Vendors are still needed for the fair, McCullough said. For more information, email Sydney Smith at

Special activities

High school civic clubs will set up booths to do fun activities like face painting, McCullough said. There will be arts and crafts booths as well, organizers said.

Entertainment will be by Zach Donegan and Monty-Hill Music.

"You have preconceived notions about kids, but these kids have the biggest hearts," McCullough said. "They're good kids."
