SACP kicks off new school year

Friday, July 29, 2016

The School Age Care Program (SACP) will be open during the back-to-school transition for grades kindergarten to eighth.

Monday, Aug. 1 will be an abbreviated, two-hour day for Bedford County Schools. Tuesday, Aug. 2 is a staff development day. Classes begin full-time hours on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Opening Monday

SACP will be open starting Monday morning, director Sheree Floyd said. The service will be available Monday at all schools except East Side from 6 a.m. until whatever time each school serves breakfast. Once schools let out after the two-hour day Monday, SACP will provide service until 6 p.m., including at East Side.

That format is for Monday.

Starting Tuesday, SACP will start operating at Southside from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. for the 2016-2017 academic year for the days that school are closed, such as staff development days and snow days, Floyd said. Since schools are closed Tuesday, SACP will operate at Southside that day.

Starting Wednesday, SACP will be available after hours at each school for the academic year; in the mornings, it will be at each school except East Side for the academic year.

The child must be registered with SACP for the 2016-2017 academic year before attending. Registration forms are available at the Central Office on Madison Street or from the Department of Education's website. Go to, select Administrative Departments on the left, School Age Care Program (SACP) in the middle of the page, Files on the left side, and Registration Form.
