Sudduth leads Cascade to 12-AA win
LEWISBURG — After weather forced the postponement of their season opener earlier this week, the Cascade Lady Champions were finally able to get the season started, and despite a couple of errors, pick up a District 12-AA win in the process.
Led by senior Bailey Sudduth’s night at the plate, the Lady Champs knocked off Marshall County 3-1.
After Brooke Sudduth drew an intentional walk during her first at-bat in the top of the first inning, Kristen Heath was able to bunt her way on base before Bailey Sudduth drove in Brooke on a RBI single.
While Cascade was able to find its way onto base throughout the game and belted out 10 hits, timely hitting was noticeably absent for the Lady Champs and Cascade left a handful of runners on base.
Marshall County went on to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning before Cascade took the lead with an answer in the top of the sixth inning.
Bailey Sudduth led off the inning with a single to left and later stole home for the game’s second run.
Cascade added one final insurance run in the top of the seventh after Snell bunted her way on to lead off the inning.
Once again Bailey Sudduth came through and knocked Snell in for the final run of the game.
She led the Lady Champs with a 3-for-4 night and had two RBI to her credit.
Snell also had a three-hit night.
UT-Chattanooga commit Brooke Sudduth spun a gem for Cascade and earned the win from the pitcher’s circle.
She allowed just three hits and one unearned run to cross the plate, while striking out 14.
She didn’t allow a walk.
Cascade hits the road again this afternoon for another 12-AA contest at CPA. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
