Eaglettes lose lead, game
Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eaglettte softball team saw an early lead slip away in a 9-3 loss to visiting Coffee County in a District 8AAA matchup on Friday evening.
The Eaglettes (1-1, 0-1 8AAA) led 3-0 after three innings but Coffee County rallied for seven runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth while retiring Shelbyville Central in order the final four innings.
Lexi Sanders scored off a single off the bat of Kendall Durard to give the Eaglettes 1-0 lead after the first innings.
Taylor Sanders ripped a solo line-drive home run over the fence then Sydnie Johnson singled home Durard in the third inning to increase the advantage to 3-0.
Coffee County took advantage of three hits and three walks in the fifth frame to score seven runs with the big licks being a two-run triple by Katie Rutledge followed by a grand-slam homer by Sarah West.
Rutledge collected three hits while Raven Rogers and Lauren Tomberlin collected two hits apiece for Coffee County.
Durard got the start and pitched five innings with Sarah Peacock pitching the final two for the Eaglettes,
Kaylee Skipper claimed the win in the circle for Coffee County.
The Eaglettes return to action at home on Monday evening against Columbia at 5:30.
