Titan driver achieves 2 million safe miles
Titan Transfer, Inc. professional driver Ed Tobitt recently completed the safety feat of driving two million miles without a single preventable collision while with the company. Tobitt is the second Titan driver in the company's 17-year history to achieve this milestone. He joins Greg Farris, who accomplished this record in 2015.
Tobitt was recognized at the company's recent Million-Mile-Safe-Driver Banquet held in Shelbyville at Riverbend Country Club. During the announcement made by Titan CEO Tommy Hodges and President Phillip Edwards, Tobitt was presented a gold personalized ring, personalized Yeti tumbler, gift card, and pewter Titan replica truck.
Tobitt was born in Davidson County. His family moved to the nursery capital of the world, Warren County, during Tobitt's early years. There he learned the value of hard, honest work while working at various nursery operations and farms in the area. His parents instilled in him the value of hard work and paying for his "wants" with his own hard-earned money.
Tobitt got his introduction to the trucking industry at his own home, as his father was a delivery driver for Kroger stores in the Middle Tennessee area. Other family members drove trucks for a living and from this early exposure Tobitt was awed with the professional truck driver. Tobitt says that when he was growing up truck drivers were looked up to and well respected in the community,
Upon graduation from high school Tobitt began working for a furniture store in McMinnville, first as a delivery man and later in sales and collections. His dependability and hard work did not go unnoticed in the community as he received his first offer to drive a truck due to those attributes. He began his truck driving career in 1977 driving a box truck for Johnson Dairy of Lebanon delivering milk to stores in the middle Tennessee area.
Hitting the road
In 1985 Tobitt began his over-the-road truck driving career with a local company in McMinnville. His first truck came equipped with no heat, no air conditioner and no power steering. The seat had no suspension and the beefy steel springs on the front and rear axles ensured that he became vividly aware of every pebble, crack or pothole on the road.
Tobitt began his Titan career in 2001 shortly after the company was formed. He has won numerous annual safety awards and is also a recipient of the company's coveted Million-Mile-Safe-Driver award. He is proud of his safety record over his 40-plus years of driving. His attention to detail and safety consensuses is noted by his numerous roadside inspections where he received perfect inspections.
In recognizing Tobitt, Titan President Phillip Edwards stated, "The most important measure of success when it comes to driving is safety and Titan driver Ed Tobitt has achieved the highest level of success. We pride ourselves on delivering customers' loads on time, but above all else doing that safely. This is something that Ed has strived to do while here at Titan Transfer. I join all employees at Titan in congratulating Ed on his accomplishment."
