Harris hits road, defeats Pioneers
McMINNVILLE — Harris Middle School’s Golden Eagles defeated the Warren County’s Pioneers 14-6 on the road in a Central Tennessee Conference matchup on Thursday evening.
The Eagles scored on a 50-yard connection from Kade Cunningham to Jadyn Harper, but the two point attempt failed. The score gave Harris a 6-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Warren County’s lone touchdown came early in the second quarter to even the score at 6-6.
Cunningham hooked up with Gavin Donegan on a long pass play to set up the Eagles last score late in the first half.
Gavin Day hauled in a touchdown pass from Cunningham then Laquan Young caught the two-point conversion from Cunningham to give Harris the lead for good.
“We weren’t physical enough in the first half, but we made the plays we needed to make to win the game.” Eagle coach Jim Dougherty said. “The team picked it up physically in the second half, but we have to get tougher.”
