Letter to the Editor, Sept. 19
Running in the Black
To the Editor:
It seems our 6th District Congressman Diane Black has lost her sense of humor. Some of us concerned citizens from her District, after months of begging for her attention, staged a little political theater recently at Diane Black Academy Day in Lebanon. We had one of our own dress up as Marie Antoinette.
She seems to be the epitome of Marie Antoinette. She orchestrates selling off essential federal programs for children to pay for hundreds of millions in tax breaks for the top 1 percent.
Maybe she is melancholy over slashing the children’s portion of federal spending? Severing $210 million from children’s education and healthcare in Tennessee is enough to make an oligarch weep. Another tearjerker might be the $236 billion her budget lops off public education nationwide over the next ten years.
Throw in the drastic cuts to the Tennessee Department of Human Services and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and we are talking a major Visine intervention.
Not to mention the crying jag that could be caused by her dismemberment of Social Security Disability Insurance and TennCare.
Will she cry herself to sleep or will Tennessee Marie have sweet dreams of just desserts? Tax breaks for millionaires delivered on the backs of the poor and middle class.
